Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival - November newsletter

Kim Chalmers has been a significant contributor to Arts Mildura and in particular, the Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival, since moving home to Sunraysia in 2005.

Kim was initiated into the Arts Mildura family in 2006, when Sergio de Pieri and Helen Healy commissioned her to compose a piece which became Riverlife, performed at Trentham Estate during the Murray River International Music Festival to 250 people.  It was here that Kim partnered up with Sally Hederics (choreography) and the two were then invited to join the MWAF committee.
In 2008, the Regional Arts Fund supported the development and composition of Elements, a 45 minute live music and dance performance with dance film at the Mildura Arts Centre.  The film was shot in stunning locations all around the district by Adam Hobbs, with music by Kim and dance by Sally Hederics.  Coincidentally, Elements is currently being exhibited at Gallery 25 until 19th November 2014.
From 2008 – 2010, Kim and Sally were involved in New Wave Projects in Mildura as part of the MWAF.  In 2011, after 5 years of being heavily involved in artistic content for the festival, Kim was made Chair of the MWAF committee and became a member of the Arts Mildura board, before taking on the role of Artistic Director in 2013.
Kim, Sally and Adam continued their partnership, coordinating Mirror Mirror in 2012 and then Kim and Sally produced Conflux in 2013 for the festival, as part of the One River Project for the Centenary of Canberra.
“In my time at MWAF I am proud to have established great long term relationships with people like Speak Percussion and Syzygy Ensemble who have both worked a lot in the community with local musicians and remain dedicated to Mildura, bringing unique contemporary music experiences to the regions.   I also commissioned new works/shows (Tristan Louth-Robins and Lindy Allen) which I would like to see continue as part of the philosophy of MWAF.”
Managing family business Chalmers Wines Australia, which recently won Gourmet Traveller Wine Viticulturists of the Year, being newly married to husband Bart and becoming a full time Mum to baby Ida, Kim has sadly resigned from her position at Arts Mildura.
With Kim’s creativity, her connections in the community and her relentless positive and inspiring attitude, her presence will be missed around the office, however we are pleased to continue the relationship with Chalmers Wines Australia and with Kim personally as a mentor and contributor to the Arts Mildura team.

The Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival will be held from 6-15 March 2015.
